VISUALISING THE FUTURE
Digital storytelling is being able to visualise designs before they exist, communicate the feeling and share the vision unlimited by real world constraints. This is the advantage of computer-generated imagery and animations. They say ‘A picture paints a thousand words’ so an animation must be a novel.
When it comes to visual content, the world of film and television with their insane action sequences have raised consumer expectations. Even modern gaming ‘story’ sequences have helped set a new standard.
CREATING A STORY
Dynamic seamless fly-through sequences are de rigueur, with the film shoot needing to happen in a dramatic impossible-to-reach location, to ensure the ‘wow’ factor… That is where digital comes into its own!
The art of creating a story and a vision has historically been the domain of marketing and advertising departments, but design teams now rely on the same digital storytelling tools and processes to help their designs get sign-off by senior management.

IMMERSIVE TOOLS
Of course, the initial ideas are still conveyed through sketches and renders, key items in any designer’s tool kit, but CGI has replaced the array of traditional story boards, renders and exploded diagrams, as digital 3d models are introduced much earlier in the process.
With the amazing tools already available and the emergence of gaming engines, designers use immersive tools for developing new designs and reviewing them, increasing the number of models that can be assessed while reducing the number of physical properties. Virtual Reality enables international design teams to review a design together online, negating the need to travel and meet in the same room.
MARKETING ASSETS
The same assets can be used to create digital content to support the launch of a new product into the market, as well as provide future customers real time experiences in VR to explore new vehicles and configure them to their own preference. Drive has always placed digital data at the centre of our process and realised the need for a dedicated CG department which helps client’s management make informed decisions as well as creating the visual content that the Marketing team may require. From photo-realistic renders set in any location, bespoke liveries or colourway options, immersive interior flythroughs or sweeping atmospheric sequences dropping down through valley roads, in fact anything that can be imagined we have been able to deliver.
